Where do we begin, the Lake District really does have something for everyone … Mountains, Lakes, Stunning Scenery, Culture, Castles, museums, Watersports, Spas and great entertainment, and lots of special events throughout the year. The Lake District's events calendar is full of festivals, shows and gatherings, from traditional Lakeland farming events to weekends for lovers of good food and music.
The World's Original Marmalade Festival, Dalemain and Penrith Town Centre, 18th and 19th March 2017 This fun and unusual event has grown and grown in popularity over recent years, with award categories for the Marmalade Awards ranging from 'Children's Marmalade' to 'Merry' (with alcohol), and 'Any Citrus'! Displays and tastings are held at Dalemain, a gorgeous Georgian stately home near Ullswater, with an orange festival taking place in the historic town of Penrith!
The 26th Keswick Jazz and Blues Festival, 11th-14th May 2017 The Keswick Jazz and Blues Festival takes place across numerous venues around Keswick, and this year features music from the very first days of jazz. You can pick your favourite jazz styles and locations with a three- or four-day stroller ticket, but remember to book online in advance!
Taste Cumbria Ulverston, 27th and 28th May 2017 The Ulverston Taste Cumbria Festival takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, with around 60 local food and drink producers offering tempting tasters and selling an assortment of treats. There will be activities for children and live cooking demonstrations to inspire you in the kitchen at home!
Country Fest, Crooklands, near Kendal, 3rd and 4th June 2017 A celebration of the countryside, Country Fest is the perfect family day out, with animals, country activities, demonstrations, local producers, and much more.
Keswick Mountain Festival, 8th-11th June 2017 The Keswick Mountain Festival is the home of world class sporting events including trail running, triathlons, open water swimming, and cycling. There are plenty of other festival experiences on offer as well, including outdoor activity taster sessions, talks by inspirational speakers, and live music.
Woolfest, Cockermouth, 23rd and 24th June 2017 This British wool festival celebrates the very best of wool and traditional woollen crafts. Meet the sheep breeds, visit exhibitions and demonstrations, talk to stall holders, take part in workshops, and bring away your very own woollen keepsake!
Pot Fest in the Park, near Penrith, 28th-30th July 2017 Set in the fabulous grounds of historic Hutton-in-the-Forest, Pot Fest features over 100 exhibitors of beautiful clay crafts from Europe and beyond.
The Cumbria Steam Gathering, Flookburgh, 29th and 30th July 2017 Organised by the Cumbria Steam and Vintage Vehicle Society at Cark Airfield, Flookburgh, the Cumbria Steam Gathering attracts impressive displays of steam engines, vintage vehicles, farm equipment, and classic cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. There's something for all the family with lots of stalls and food, daredevil entertainment, and even an old-fashioned fairground!
